Our team has more than 10 years’ work experience in the provision of care and support to people living in their own homes. We offer personalised care and support to meet your or your loved one’s needs to enhance your or your loved one’s wellbeing. Our staff are caring, compassionate, and will provide care in a more dignified manner and will respect your privacy.
Absolutely. Our Home Help and Housekeeping service is offered for situations just like this. As part of our assessment service, we would explore with you and your parents exactly what support they need and develop a plan to provide that help.
Brook of Life Care provides a range of domiciliary (home) care services for adults of any age. We recognise that anyone who lives alone, regardless of age, can find themselves in a position where they need some temporary assistance with personal, physical disability care and some home help. Our assessment service is open to all, and we will help you and your son to explore the best options whilst he recovers. Contact us to find out how to obtain a free assessment.
As part of our assessment service, we would explore with you exactly what care and support you need and develop a plan to provide that help. You have the right to choose the level of care and support you need. We can provide a few hours of care a day or 24 hours round the clock care and support. The choice is yours. We offer a wide range of services to include domiciliary, live-in care, tailored 24/7 care, home help and companionship and many other services. Please check our services page for more information.
The main difference between live-in care and domiciliary home care is the duration and amount of care and assistance that is required. If you are only looking for a couple of hours a week then domiciliary home care would be the more appropriate choice. Whereas, if you are looking for multiple hours a day and overnight stays then live-in care would be suitable.
A short-term or respite live-in care placement may be arranged for a number of weeks and is beneficial when returning home from hospital after an operation or recovering from illness, or to cover an extended break from your regular caregiver. Given that the placement for a short-term live-in care arrangement is for several weeks, it’s likely that you’ll have the same live-in care assistant for the duration of your care.
As always, we would provide a comprehensive assessment of your needs so we can walk into your home and take full responsibility for the tasks your carer does on a daily basis.
Ongoing conditions such as dementia, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s bring their own challenges, but no matter what your circumstance, the heartfelt care of a live-in carer enables you and your loved ones to access an enriched quality of life. A live-in carer’s full-time support enables you to discover a new way to explore life’s adventures.
Some of our live-in carers are drivers and will be happy to drive you wherever you need to go. If you wish your live-in carer to use your car, you’ll need to arrange for them to be insured at your own cost.
The great advantage of live-in care is that it provides a highly flexible service around the changing needs and routines of an individual. Live-in care works best when there is good, regular communication between everyone.
The idea of inviting a stranger to live with you or your loved one at home may feel like a daunting prospect, but a live-in carer sensitively and seamlessly supports the lifestyle and routines in your home with minimal disruption.
We will introduce you to a selection of live-in carers and they will be able to offer their advice and guidance about which carer would be the best match for you. Sharing your home with a carer can be a daunting prospect, so selecting a carer should be more than a box-ticking exercise. Your care provider should judge a potential carer’s compatibility by matching not only their specialist training and experience but also their personalities and preferences.
Yes, our carers are happy to shop for your food and cook all your favourite, nutritious meals throughout the day. This will provide you with the fuel you need to make the most of your day.
Overnight care is when an expertly trained carer stays in your home overnight to meet your health care needs so you can have a restful night’s sleep.
A waking night carer helps you with the care and support you need to stay safely in your own home, providing care throughout the night.
A “waking night” means having a carer on hand throughout the night that will support you as they would during the day.
A night sitting service is where we arrange for a trained carer to keep you or your loved one company so your regular care provider can take a break.
The cost will depend very much on the level and type of care that you need. Our care is tailored to the individual, so the best way to explore what would suit you or your loved one’s needs is to contact us by telephone, email or using the enquiry form on our website.
You can also book a free, no obligation assessment. A member of our management team will discuss with you and/or your loved ones the options and then advise what would suit your needs best.
We charge by the hour for our services and will then send an invoice to you every 2 weeks.
It is likely that you will have to pay for the care that you receive yourself. However, some people may be entitled to receive assistance with some or all of their care costs from their local councils or through the NHS. You can find out from your local council how they can help you with your care costs.
Since the Care Act 2014 came into force self-funders have been able to ask the local authority to arrange services, but not residential care, on their behalf. One advantage of this is that the local authority may be able to get cheaper rates than self-funders arranging care themselves. One disadvantage is that the local authority can charge an arrangement fee for this. Local authorities have a responsibility for providing information and advice to self-funders.
We understand that letting someone into your home can be daunting. At Brook of Life Care, we carry out a rigorous recruitment and selection process. Our staff have to pass through a selection process before they are interviewed. After we offer a position to a new team member, they must then undergo detailed background checks that include employment references, identification checks and a criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
We recognise that some of our clients may be extremely vulnerable and we have policies and procedures for the safeguarding of vulnerable adults. All our staff are required to undertake training to ensure that they understand safeguarding procedures. Team members understand that where concerns are identified while they are in someone’s home, that these are raised with the relevant nominated managers.
Our Registered Manager and Care Coordinator have years of experience matching the right carers to the right service users/ clients, and they know this can only be achieved by listening to the client’s specific needs, asking the right questions, and personally knowing every carer we have at Brook of Life Care Ltd.
Our phone lines are manned by our own staff 24 hours a day, and we currently are able to have someone to you within one hour.
No, we don’t believe in locking people into lengthy agreements; we hope that, if you continue to need help, the quality of our service is all you’ll require to convince you to continue using us.
As we have no long-term contracts and the minimum amount of time you need to book one of our carers is just one hour. You can try us out at any time and then decide how often and for how long you need our help.
Not a problem – just give us a little notice that you want to change days or times and we can certainly accommodate this.
It’s wonderful if you live in a community or with family who can look after your needs for free, but there will be times when those who look after you will be away or sick, there will be times when more specialist support is needed that an untrained person simply cannot provide, and there are times when those who look after you will need a rest themselves. With Brook of Life Care there is always cover and our staff are all DBS checked, thoroughly referenced, highly skilled and well trained, as well as being genuinely nice people.
We do our utmost to ensure that a carer with the right qualities and skills is matched to your needs. However, there are bound to be times when personalities don’t quite fit. If at any time you decide that you would prefer someone else we will replace them for you with no fuss or bother.
The carer works for you so initially you should always try to resolve any issues directly with them. However, the Registered Manager and the Care Coordinator will mediate if there is an issue that is not easily rectified. If you have a problem with your carer that has not been resolved, then get in contact with Brook of Life Care and we will discuss the problem with both you and the carer and help you to find a solution.
